Anorexia is an eating disorder in which a person has an irrational fear of getting fat and therefore diets excessively to stay thin. They have an intense fear of weight gain, so they starve themselves, avoid high-calorie foods and exercise constantly (Vollstadt96). Many people with anorexia can also exhibit the practice of bulimia, which is ingesting large quantities of food and then voiding it through self-induced vomiting to remain thin (AnorexiaNP). This disorder mainly affects adolescent girls although it can affect both boys and girls of any age group. The girls are single minded in their determination to lose weight, and they believe they are fat even though they are very thin. The weight loss is slowly progressive and often starts with a perfectly normal weight reducing diet (IntroducingNP). After this has continued for several months the weight loss becomes extreme and noticeable (AnorexiaNP).
The cause of anorexia isn’t known, but people with anorexia may believe they would be happier or more successful if they were thin, or they want everything in their lives to be perfect (AnorexiaNP). A combination of psychological, environmental and physiological factors are associated with the development of this disorder. Researchers have found that part of the brain called the hypothalamus begins to work improperly after the onset of anorexia. This part of the brain controls activities such as the maintenance of water balance, regulation of body temperature, and secretion of endocrine glands and sugar and fat metabolism. I feel that by doing all of this that I will gain a greater sense of understanding for individuals with autism so as to better help them if I should ever have the privilege to work with an autistic person. In sociology there are broadly two approaches to the definition of religion. Social theorist, Emile Durkheim (1912), defines religion in terms of its social functions: religion is a system of beliefs and rituals with reference to the sacred which binds people together in social groups. This definition however has been criticized for being too inclusive as almost any public activity, take football for example, may have an integrative effect for social groups.
The second approach, which follows research by Max Weber, defines religion as any set of coherent answers to human existential dilemmas – birth, sickness, death – which make the world meaningful. Again there is a criticism and that is that this approach implies that all humans are religious, since we are all faced with problems such as ageing, illness and death.
The two above approaches are not ‘set in stone’ definitions of religion; they are simply a starting point for discussion. It is not possible to compact all beliefs and practices of a given religion such as Christianity, Judaism Islam etc. into one definitive statement. (read full text…)

The geography of India and China had great influences of their economy. My plan of action is to show how India and China’s country affected their way of life and their safety.
China was divided into three states when they fell to the Han dynasty; the Wu from the Southland and the Wei from the North. For right now I am only going to concentrate on 2 out of the 3 states, the Wu and the Wei. The Wu from the South had wonderful waterways that were used for irrigation and navigation. They had a great way of transportation down those waterways and also helped them transport crops. With the weather conditions in southern China was also amazing, warm weather made it easy for crops such and rice and tea to grow. The south was very well organized because with the rice cultivation it made it easier to promote it to be irrigated. I think that the question suggests the enormity of the range and scope of the African-American experience in the New World over the last several hundred years and of his African ancestors before that. In order to address the question we must examine the nature of a couple of things. One of those is certainly what it is we mean when we say “Black” in the context of music and in the context of America and in the context of American music. I find it curiously intriguing that the question does not use the term “Black Music.” I suspect this is quite deliberate, as it invites us to ask, as Stuart Hall (1992) cagily queries: “What is this “Black” in Black Popular Culture?” Our mission here is similar, to wit: what is this “Black” in American music? (pun unintended but acceptable).
The question hints at whether we can distinguish the validity of something called “Black music,” and if so, how are we to identify it? It also gets at whether “Black Music,” if it exists, is the same or something different than “American music.” Does it exist as a sub-genre of American music but is something separate and equal? (or unequal?). Or, is to speak of Blackness as “an aesthetic marker” in American music to “mark” American music as Africanized? (read full text…)
