On July 30, 1996, fifteen women stood on a podium surrounded by hundreds of thousands of people and felt like all their dreams had come true. Those who watched them knew that they had come a long way to get where they were today, not because of the controversial loss a few days before and the strive to get back to the top, but because of the struggle that women have had for centuries to be accepted in the sports world.
